Lymphedema is how your body responds to several medical issues and can occur as a result of injury, trauma, medications, surgery, or medical conditions like cancer, or can be congenital, genetic or hereditary. This can result in various degrees of swelling in a limb or body part. Inflammatory issues are often related to the lymphatic system.
Lymphedema can be temporary or permanent depending on the stage. Your lymphatic system is similar to your body’s sewer and recycling system in that it is responsible for circulating fluid throughout your body and disposing of unwanted waste. This system is important to maintain overall health and well being as well as boost your immune system to decrease your risk of an exacerbation. There is three times as much lymph fluid in the body as there is blood. Fatigue, pain, inflammation, swelling and illness are all possible when your immune system is impaired.
All of these symptoms can be treated appropriately at the Hodi Lymphatic Center.
