Are you anticipating a surgery, or just have one completed and have significant edema/swelling as a result? Manual lymph drainage can help and is recommended by many leading surgeons in order to improve healing time and outcomes.
Edema that occurs immediately following a surgical procedure and can last for the next several weeks to months. Manual lymph drainage is commonly recommended in order to speed recovery time and improve movement with 5-20 usually recommended. This recommendation is based on a single procedure, and may require additional if multi ple procedures are completed at the same time. MLD seems most effective when completing every other day for the first 2-3 weeks, after all major incisions have resolved, and tapering down to one visit/month over the next 5 months to ensure full and adequate healing. The healing process typically takes 3-6 months and manual lymph drainage can be provided throughout that time, depending on individual discomfort and speed of recovery. Proper compression is also necessary to maximize healing. Appropriate garments with best fit and measurements capturing appropriate size are necessary.
